BOOK DESCRIPTION
Car hijacking has become a culturally defining crime in contemporary
South Africa; if it hasn’t happened to you, you probably know a
close friend or relative who’s been involved. Now, for the first
time, an award-winning SA investigative journalist has extensively
interviewed carjackers and the cops who hunt them to piece together
an account of the dismantling of a Gauteng syndicate. Following
the trail of a young gangster who learns his trade in the Cape before
he is caught and forced to infiltrate the far more organised, far
more violent and influential world of Johannesburg’s criminal underbelly,
the story blends fact and fiction, as well as our turbulent past
and turbulent present. The result is a landmark book that is essential,
riveting reading for the modern South African.

REVIEWS
“Hijack is the best thriller this country has produced, a real groundbreaker in our literary circles… It is always refreshing to read a book that moves away from the old apartheid themes and analyses what is happening in our country today. Hijack does this, uncovering one of our greatest fears in an entertaining, heartstopping format that gets a huge thumbs up from this reviewer.” – Saturday Star
“The research is brilliant – I often felt like I was privy to a top-secret dossier of hijacker profiles… It is a book that every South African should read” – Cape Argus |
